First of all, sit in a comfortable position – Straighten your back and close your eyes

Relax your mind, relax your body and focus only on your breathing.

Observe your breathing

Observe your breathing

Deep Inhale —- Deep Exhale —- Observe the pattern

Focus your mind only on your breathing

Now, when your are relaxed from your internal and external body, you can move ahead

The time which we took to get our mind relaxed, deep inhale and exhale while your eyes are closed

This will help in relaxing your mind and focus on one single point

Will help your whole body to get relaxed, calm your mind and stop the unnecessary thoughts

That is why it is said that your mind should be relaxed before you start anything.

Now, attain the Namaskar or Anjali mudra with palms facing each other in front of your chest region

Thumbs should touch your body and fingers joining together

This is known as Anjali Mudra

Now, we will start with a starting prayer

–PATANJALI YOGA MANTRA—

After the mind and body is completely relaxed, you can start with any prayer

Which will create a vibration of positive energy in our body

This will help with a positive effect on whatever you do after this

The prayer we uttered today, we will now learn the meaning of that shloka.

Let us bow down to the great sages of Patanjali, who gave yoga for peace and purity of mind, grammar for clarity and purity of speech and medicine for perfection of health.

Maharishi Patanjali – Father of Modern Yoga gave a detailed and systematic representation of yoga with it’s sutras

We will discuss in detail about yoga sutra in further videos

Let us first learn the meaning of OM and 3 times Shanti

This is very important to understand the meaning of things we do and utter

According to Mandukya Upanishad, there are few words which are not only just a word but a sense of feeling or emotion which creates in our mind

like, when we listen a word – SNAKE, it creates an image with a ”sense of fear” in our mind

That is why, it is said that there are some words which creates an impression in our mind which can’t be forgotten

Likely, OM creates an image soon after we listen the word with 3 curves, a moon and a dot

What is the meaning of this symbol? We will now learn about it.

First of all, the smallest curve, represents the unconscious (deep sleep) – Sushuti

Second big curve represents then consciousness (waking state) – Jagrat

The third curve which starts from the middle represents the sub consciousness (dream state) – swapna

half crescent moon represents the Maya or the Illusional world which creates a barrier to realise the ultimate reality

The small dot represents the onness – Super Consciousness (Turiya) – Samadhi State

This is the symbolic meaning of the word OM.

OM is not just a word – it is a combination of 3 different sound – A, U and M

These 3 sounds are the major vocal cords which are produced by different parts of the body

A sound is created from our abdomen region

U sound is created from our chest region

M sound is created though throat region

Combination of A U M is known as OM

According to sanskrit, when you combine A with U, it becomes O

That is why, correct way of pronouncing OM is AUM

Whenever you start uttering the word AUM, it should activate all our major vocal cords

the ratio of A U M should be in 1:1:1 ratio

OM is not only restricted to Hinduism, it relates to our mind states and above all religion, caste or any culture.

It explains us to achieve oneness by clearing the barrier of illusion

Reason being for saying 3 times shanti after OM is to calm all 3 states of our mind

Each ‘shanti’ is for the unconscious, conscious and sub conscious mind

If our mind is calm and relaxed, it will help our whole body to be healthy

So, today we learnt about how to start a yoga class in an appropriate way

First of all, relax your body

Then, start with a prayer which creates a positive energy

AUM chanting in 1:1:1 ratio followed by 3 times shanti – Feel the vibrations and positive energy

now, when you start doing something- it will help you with concentration power with relaxed mind

I hope you learnt something new and interesting.
